With the news of Nelson Mandela’s passing yesterday, it dawned on me that I never made an official blog post about the portrait I did of him several months ago. I’m happy to have contributed to Follow The Northern Star‘s efforts to “respectfully highlight the values exemplified and significant contributions made by individuals within diverse ethnic minorities throughout North American history” by creating Mandela’s portrait and several others. He was a prime example of how to treat others, regardless of how you’ve been treated.
“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” -Nelson Mandela (FromĀ Long Walk to Freedom, 1995)

Nice pencil sketch. You always do a great job capturing the likeness and creating depth in your pencil illustrations.
Thanks a bunch Kevin!
